A few weeks ago I got into the habit of browsing You Tube for videos of kinetic sculptures. Well, as luck would have it, I have a perfectly good application for one of the cooler ones I’ve seen.
I saw this video on youtube a few weeks ago and told myself I had to design my own pair….err…I had to copy this pair!
The wings above were designed and created by a brilliant inventor named David Bynoe. Check out his website for more awesome projects.
So David went the extra mile to make his wings look pretty, but here’s why I won’t follow his lead. My wings are going to be covered in condoms.
That’s right. Prophylactics. My girlfriends salon, The Icon Studio For Hair, is partaking in an AIDS awareness fund raiser fashion show. The rules are simple. The Nebraska AIDS Project gave them a box with 3,000 condoms that they need to fashion into a costume or article of clothing. So the girls at the salon decided on a fairy costume. This was a few days after I first saw Davids wings. So long story short, I’m building them some wings for their fashion show. I’m still working on finalizing my design, but here’s what I’ve got so far. I’ll post updates as they happen, and eventually I will post ful plans and a bill of materials for anyone who wants to make their own pair of wings.
